PRAYERS FOR THE DEAD -- "It is a holy & pious thought to pray for the dead." (2 Macc 12:45). One of the corporal works of mercy is to pray for the dead. Those persons whom we have loved during their life here on earth, we should still remember to pray for after they have died. The best prayer of all is the Mass, at which the mystical body of Christ, that is the souls in heaven, on the earth, and in under the earth, join together as one and offer their prayers to God. Envelopes are available at each entrance to the Church and on the side altars to request Masses to be offered. The usual Mass stipend is $10.00. Write the Mass intention on the envelope & enclose $10.00. Give the envelope to one of the priests or drop it in the Sunday collection. The intentions for each Mass are listed in the Bulletin. Pray for the dead! NOTE: Special dates for Masses should be requested as far ahead as possible. We have many requests for the weekend Masses & may not be able to honor your wishes. We will do our best to schedule Masses as close to your request as possible. Saturday evening and Sundays are filled through December, 2008.

WITHOUT CHANGING YOUR WILL – you can leave a gift to our parish. Designate our parish or other Diocesan charity as the beneficiary of all or a portion of your IRA or 401K. Your funds have grown tax free in your IRA or 401K, and your heirs could be taxed at a high rate when the funds are distributed. If you donate these funds, the money passes directly to our parish, tax-free. Contact your IRA or 401K plan administrator for a change of beneficiary designation form. **Leave your Savings Account or Certificate of Deposit (CD) to our parish or other Diocesan charity. Simply change the beneficiary to make the Savings Account or CD payable upon death to the Diocesan Charity of your choice. The charity will receive the funds when you are deceased. For more information contact your financial institution. **Contact me for help and additional options for planned gifts. Les Mach, Planned Giving Officer, Diocese of Lincoln.
