SCHOOL NEWS:

TUESDAY, NOVEMBER 18th – School Advisory Board Meeting, 7:30pm. Agenda: Teacher Appreciation Dinner.

FRIDAY, NOVEMBER 21st – Winners of St. Jude Math-a-thon will play Basketball with MCC at 2:30pm in St. Patrick Gym.

RELIGIOUS EDUCATION:

CCD – meets Wednesday, November 19th, St. Patrick School – 7:00-8:15pm.

CYO/GODPARENT GROUPS - Wednesday, November 19th. Meet at home of godparents.

RCIA classes -- this Thursday, November 20th , 7:00pm in the School Library. Use church parking lot and NE door of the school.

CATHOLIC SOCIAL SERVICES COUNSELING SERVICES – are now available on Wednesday (all day), and Thursday evenings at St. Cecilia Rectory in Hastings. Call 1-800-961-6277 for an appointment.

THE NEXT RETROUVAILLE – is scheduled to begin on February 2, 2009 in Schuyler, Nebraska. Contact Bergir & Connie Benson for more information or completely confidential registration. Information about Retrouvaille can be found at the entrances to the Church.

WE WILL WINTERIZE THE CHURCH WINDOWS WITH SHRINK WRAP – on Sunday, November 23rd beginning at 12:15pm. Volunteers are needed. Come and help – many hands make light work. Bring your hair dryers!!

A STEWARDSHIP CONFERENCE – will be held in McCook on Saturday, February 28, 2009 from 2:00-6:00pm. Les Mach of the Planned Giving Office of the Lincoln Diocese is arranging speakers. Mass at 6:00pm with Bishop Fabian Bruskewitz will close the conference. Mark your calendars for this event. More details will be available in the coming weeks.

ADVENT RETREAT / 40 HOURS – will be held at St. Patrick Church, Imperial, Sunday, November 30th, to Tuesday, December 2nd.

            Sunday: 5:00pm Vespers; 6:00pm Fr. Courtney meets with 4th grade and older; 7:00pm, Exposition and first talk “Living the Mission of the Church in Scripture”. “Know, love and defend your faith”. Adoration all night.

            Monday December 1st, 7:00am Lauds, 7:20am Benediction and Mass, exposition again and adoration all day. Pancake Supper at 5:00pm at M & M’s Jaz. 6:30pm Vespers and second talk: “To Know the Gospels is to Know Christ Jesus”, followed by adoration all night.

            Tuesday, December 2nd, 6:00am Benediction and Mass. 6:00pm Solemn Exposition of the Most Blessed Sacrament and Vespers with area priests and Fr. Courtney’s final talk “St Paul the Great Missionary” concluding with Benediction and after some chocolate and crackers in the basement. Additional information available at the entrances to the Church.

2009 RELIGIOUS CALENDARS – are available at the entrances of the Church (one per family please). Thanks to Carpenter Funeral Home for providing these for us again this year.

THE SCHOOL LUNCH KITCHEN – needs a good, used microwave oven.

THE ALTAR SOCIETY – voted to donate $750.00 to Our Lady of Good Counsel Retreat House to help them replace the boiler (heating system). Total project cost is $75,000.

PARISH COUNCIL ELECTIONS – The Parish Council is an advisory board, with no administrative powers, that works to advise the pastor about many aspects of parish life, -- finances, adult & child education, buildings & grounds, and liturgical, to name a few. Parish Council members need to be hard workers who are ready to find and implement solutions if there is a problem; need to be able to get others involved in the solutions; and need to set the example for others. They should be dedicated Catholics, involved, prayerful, advocates of Catholic education (school, CCD, CYO), and team players. The members of the Council serve the parish for three years. Nominations for three new Council members are needed. Election will be held Saturday/Sunday, December 6 & 7th.

BARGAIN BAZAAR NEWS:

            We need more fall and winter clothing, especially for younger children.

            Ask to see our special napkins, tablecloths and serving pieces. Just right for your holiday tables.

            WANTED – your gently used bags (paper & plastic, all sizes, flattened).

            BARGAIN BAZAAR VOLUNTEER’S MEETING – Friday, November 21, 2008, 9:00am at Fuller’s Restaurant. Coffee and Rolls!!

A HOLY LAND PILGRIMAGE – to encounter the land Christ walked will take place August 2-13, 2009. Fr. Rand Langhorst will serve as Director in union with the sponsoring agency, Tekton Ministries, $3,100 from Omaha, double occupancy, includes breakfast, supper, tips, and transportation in the Holy Land. You will only need extra money for souvenirs and lunches. If you have any interest please contact Fr. PRAYERS ARE REQUESTED – for Pastor Chris Atkins of McCook’s Evangelical Free Church. This past week Chris was diagnosed with a brain tumor and he and his wife have gone to Dallas, Texas for further diagnosis, possible surgery and other treatment.

A WELCOME DINNER – for Fr. Peter will be held on Sunday, November 23rd following the 10:00am Mass at Sacred Heart Church.

CYO MEMBERS ARE SELLING – personalized, decorated cake pans, pie pans and other baking pans and utensils as a fund raiser for their upcoming ski trip. These items would make great Christmas gifts. Contact any CYO member, freshmen through senior, if you wish to see a brochure, or contact Chris Carfield at 345-6623.

OUR LADY OF FATIMA CIRCLE – will meet at the home of Anna Montey, 1611 West 3rd Street, on Tuesday, November 18th at 7:00pm.

 


SPILL THE BEANS 2008-2009 – will be this Sunday, November 16th, here at St. Patrick Church in the basement. Speakers will be Fr. Faulkner and Jeff Schinstock. Their topic will be “Knocked Off Your Horse”. Meeting is from 4:00-6:00pm. Any interested high school student should attend. Invite a friend!!

40 DAYS FOR LIFE – The Lincoln Prayer Vigil will be held 7 days a week - Monday through Sunday starting at 6:00am to 6:00pm @ Planned Parenthood, 37th & South, Lincoln, NE on the public sidewalk in front of the abortion facility. Signs and prayer directives will be available in the garage next door. Please sign in at the book located in the box along the side of the driveway. We are encouraging you to please wear your “HUSKER RED” clothing when you come to pray as this will show that Pro Life people are Big Red Fans Also!! THE FINAL NUMBERS ARE IN FOR THE 2008 FALL FESTIVAL – There is a set of numbers just as important, or possibly more important, than the monetary figures:

1.           Six (6) people donated raffle prizes

2.           54 McCook area businesses donated items, or cash for the auction

3.           62 individuals/groups donated time

4.           52 individuals donated items for the auction

5.           Several hundred people attended the event – dining, playing games, buying auction items, and other activities

6.           And many, many volunteers gave of their time and talent attending planning meetings, contacting parents, grandparents, aunts and uncles, buying and selling raffle tickets, and cleaning up after this important parish fund raising event.

Final figures for the 2008 Fall Festival are: Gross Receipts: $20,907.05; less Expenses of $4,244.16; Equals Net Proceeds of $16,662.89. THANK YOU!!!

COLLECTION FOR CLOISTERED SISTERS – Annually a collection on Thanksgiving Day is taken to help support the work of the Pink Sisters in Lincoln and the Carmelite Sisters in Agnew, NE. These Sisters support our Diocese with their contemplative lives and constant hours of prayer before the Blessed Sacrament. Please be generous in your support of these Holy Women. An envelope is included in your boxed set for your contribution.

HOLIDAY DINNER – The holidays can be a lonely time or a struggle financially. In an effort to help ease these burdens a little, St. Patrick Church will host a holiday dinner on Sunday, January 4hh in the Church basement. This feast includes ham, potatoes, vegetables, roll and dessert, plus ample time for visiting with others. A second collection will be taken up Saturday/Sunday, December 13/14 to help defray the cost of this meal. Personal invitations will be sent out to many names being compiled on a list. If you know of someone who should be invited to this dinner, Catholic or not, please contact the Rectory. R.S.V.P by Friday, December 30th. Help will be needed for cooking, serving, greeting, decorating, desserts, salads, clean up, advertising, etc. Watch the bulletin for more details
